Whos Sam?
Hi, I’m Sam, the founder of Grounded Canines and my sidekick Coal is a boisterous, lovable Labrador x Huntaway who keeps life entertaining and reminds me not to take things too seriously.
With a background as an Animal Control Officer and years immersed in the dog world, I bring extensive hands-on experience in dog handling, behaviour and real-world risk management. I’ve worked directly with aggressive, reactive and complex dogs in our communities, supported dogs transitioning into new homes, and helped owners build stronger everyday relationships through clear, practical guidance.
Coal and I are also involved in temperament testing dogs for rehoming and compete in obedience (on his best behaviour days). I’ve completed canine first aid training and have attended and presented at national animal management conferences.
My training philosophy is simple: calm, clear communication and structure build confident dogs. Every walk and training session is designed to support a dog’s physical needs, mental engagement and emotional balance. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all training — each dog is treated as an individual and supported in a way that suits their personality, needs and stage of development.
Grounded Canines is more than a service. It’s a partnership built on trust, understanding and balance.
